Tenerife Hidden Gems

Tenerife is much more than the Teide, the beaches of the south and the most famous tourist attractions. Beyond the places you will find in every guidebook, the island is full of small villages, volcanic pools, forgotten landscapes and spectacular viewpoints that are perfect for slowing down and discovering a different side of Tenerife.

Here are some of our favorite hidden gems, places where you can experience the island's nature, local character and volcanic landscapes away from the busiest tourist areas.

A beautiful natural swimming pool carved into the volcanic coastline. The crystal-clear water and dramatic black-rock landscape make it a perfect place for a quiet swim and a walk along the coast.

The sea can become rough, so always check the conditions before entering the water.

Located on Tenerife's northeast coast, Jover is a great spot to experience the rugged Atlantic coastline without the atmosphere of a traditional tourist resort.

The natural pool is surrounded by volcanic rock and is particularly beautiful around sunset.

One of the north coast's classic volcanic swimming spots, but still much more local in atmosphere than the famous pools of Garachico.

The natural rock formations create sheltered areas where you can enjoy the ocean while surrounded by Tenerife's volcanic landscape.

Forget the resorts and head into the mountains.

Teno Alto is one of the most traditional rural areas of Tenerife, known for its farming traditions and locally produced artisan cheese. It is a great place to experience the quieter, rural side of the island.

The surrounding Teno Rural Park also contains traditional hamlets, agricultural landscapes and hiking trails.

Although Masca is becoming increasingly popular, it is still one of the most spectacular places to experience Tenerife's mountainous landscape.

The tiny village is surrounded by dramatic volcanic ridges and deep ravines. Take your time driving through the Teno mountains and stop at the viewpoints along the way.

On the opposite side of the island, the Anaga mountains offer an entirely different Tenerife.

Ancient laurel forests, winding mountain roads, tiny villages and dramatic Atlantic beaches make this one of the island's most fascinating areas.

Instead of simply driving through Anaga, take your time exploring Taganana, Almáciga and Benijo.
